Storage Problems

Internal storage on MTB frames is becoming a standard feature. Ari has a chance to do theirs in a way that gives riders more choice.

Other solutions tend to restrict users to brand system tool sets by designing tool sets to fit perfectly together.

Ari values compatibility and choice. We want to avoid restricting users to a system. In addition, we don’t design our own accessories; therefore, Ari needs a more universal solution.

Space
The amount of space needed depends on what a user needs to carry. I interviewed a few riders within the company to compile thoughts around items.

Main Interview Discoveries:
  1. Different rides call for different items
  2. Different users prefer various types of tools across many brands
  3. Water and dust are often present.
  4. You must provide an easy entry and exit for the bag.

    Material Selection

HDPE gridstop durable outer shell to keep moisture out

A neoprene liner keeps things from rattling in the downtube

Waterproof zippers keep everything from mildew/rust

    Compartments

We could ensure that the hinge point exists by assigning everything a spot inside one large tube. However, that constricts the user to certain sizes of tools etc. Rather than do that it is better to use a compartment system which solves all three of problems.

    1. Gives the user the ability to quickly grab which bag(’s) they will take each ride. (food, inflation, mechanical, sunglasses etc.)
    2. Leaves the user free to put whatever they can fit in each bag.
    3. Provide a hinge point for the exit/entry.

    Attachment Systems

Trying many different attachment systems. G-hook, button, Fidlock snap, clip.

Testers loved the interaction of the Fidlock snaps, however pricing led us to land on the chest strap clip.
