Beams: Autoprogettazione Generator
04/2025exploration
Beams explores the tension between user desires and design choices in an age where individuals are increasingly capable of making things themselves. Inspired by Enzo Mari’s Autoprogettazione, the project defines parametric plans for a stool, bench, chair, or sofa. The furnitures are shaped by direct user input and construction plans are printed on a receipt. It asks how design could shift if we are capable of listening to individuals rather than markets, and whether a return to a digital cottage industry is actually desirable. In making this, I’ve reflected on the weight of my choices as a designer. Both the freedoms they grant, and the limitations they set.
